CMS Initiates Primary Care Pilot Program to Enhance Value-Based Care Implementation

CMS has launched a new program called the Making Care Primary Model, which aims to improve health outcomes and lower costs by strengthening and enhancing primary care. The model will provide enhanced payments to participating primary care providers to improve infrastructure, better coordinate with specialists, and increase access to care. It will run for over 10 years and roll out across eight states, including Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina and Washington. The program will serve to support small and rural healthcare organizations in entering into better value-based care arrangements.

Implementation of Patient Insurance Regulations

The Patient Insurance Act and the Patient Injuries Act are applicable in cases of bodily injury or loss of life resulting from medical treatment or healthcare received in hospitals, healthcare centers, private clinics, or even outside medical institutions if performed by a medical professional. However, certain conditions must be met, such as the injury occurring within Finland’s geographic area, the limitation period not having expired, and the injured party being a patient or participant in medical research. From 2021, the new Patient Insurance Act applies to health and medical care provided abroad if arranged by a public healthcare unit. The Patient Insurance Centre evaluates the compensability of the injury based on eight grounds.
